YouTube is great, but it’s important to not neglect other social media platforms as you grow your channel and connect with subscribers all over the world. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope, Twitter, and other platforms are just as important as YouTube, but navigating all of them can get confusing. We’re here to help with a series of tutorials on different social media platforms, to help you maximize your online presence and keep you connected with your subscribers. Today: Facebook!
1.55 BILLION. That’s how many monthly users Facebook had as of the third quarter of 2015. Billion. Say it with us: Beeelllllyyyyooonnn. That’s a lot – the Earth has around 7.4 billion people, so one out of every four people in the entire world is on Facebook.
Translation? As a vlogger and/or blogger, you canNOT afford to not use Facebook as a social media tool. We’re here to help.

Boost Your Posts
You may have noticed that unless you manually click “follow” or “see at the top of my news feed”, you see more posts on your Facebook feed from certain friends, family, coworkers, and businesses or celebs you follow, than from others. This is partly due to Facebook’s complex, frustrating algorithm that decides (arbitrarily, it often seems) which posts it thinks you’ll like. It’s also partly due to boosted, aka sponsored, posts. Read through Facebook’s official Boosting Posts page for full details on price vs. how many people you’ll reach, but you’ll spend anywhere from $5 on up to boost a post to your viewers and to appear as an ad to other users. You can target your boosted posts to specific audiences, too!
Ask Your Followers
Never hurts to ask, right? Ask your followers to click on your page, then hover over the “Liked” button on your cover photo to reveal the “Choose What You See From This Page” button. Once they click on that, they can choose to see your posts: “See First”, “Default” (see posts according to the FB algorithm), or “Unfollow” to never see your posts. Tell them if they want to be the first to know about your newest videos, blogs, and giveaways, to select “See First”.
Exclusive Content
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: You’ve gotta create unique, exclusive content specifically for each social media platform, in addition to broadcasting your videos and posts across all platforms. Create a unique Facebook-entries-only giveaway, or post questionnaires or do live feeds.
CTA Alert!
CTA means Call To Action – encouraging a reader to “click here to like our page” or “subscribe to emails” or “shop now”. Place a clear Call To Action graphic on the landing tab of your page inviting viewers to like and subscribe to your Facebook page.
Page Insights
Wanna know how many people your posts have reached? See at a glance which posts got the most likes and comments, or what times of day your subscribers interact with your page the most? The Facebook Page Insights page is invaluable. Don’t forget to check it weekly, if not daily! It’s a fast, easy way to determine what posts your followers like the most, and tailor your content accordingly.
