YouTube is great, but it’s important to not neglect other social media platforms as you grow your channel and connect with subscribers all over the world. Periscope, owned by Twitter, is essentially Snapchat, but in long form. Instead of a 10-15 second limit, your videos can be as long as you want – but they’re only viewable for 24 hours. Because of this short shelf life, it prompts your subscribers to check in on your Periscope more often, and as we all know, the more a subscriber looks at your social media platforms, the more likely they are to click on a link and purchase what you recommend. Read on for a few of our best Periscope tips!
Embrace the Interactivity
The cool thing about Periscope is that your viewers will be able to comment AS you’re broadcasting, interacting with you in real time. Embrace it! Respond to comments live, give shout-outs, and do Reddit-style Ask Me Anything broadcasts! Ask viewers which outfit you should wear to a party, or what you should cook to dinner – the sky’s the limit.
Embrace Twitter Analytics
Since Twitter and Periscope are linked, do your research to find out when people are engaging with your tweets. This enables you to reach the most people instantly when you Periscope at the right time of day – hit up Twitter Analytics for the full lowdown.
Be Wary of too Much Self-Promotion
If your videos/tweets/Instagrams/etc are all about YOU, it comes across as pretty self-absorbed. Comment on fellow bloggers’ Periscope broadcasts, reply to subscriber comments, and make sure you do Periscopes on topics OTHER than yourself.
Exclusive Content
Just as with Snapchat, Periscope is a great place to post exclusive content. Tutorials? Get Ready With Me? Follow Me Around? You decide – but make sure you promote your Periscope-exclusive broadcasts on your other social media platforms.
What’s in a Name?
Titles. They can be short and sweet, or long and boring. It’s better to keep it short and leave your subscribers wanting to click on the broadcast to view it! Short and catchy is better!
Double Down
It should be happening automatically, but make sure your Periscope and Twitter accounts are linked, so your Periscopes are automatically uploaded to Twitter.
