MagicLinks believes in the power of social outreach: Together, we can all do something to help our communities. Influencers, in particular, have an incredible, unique opportunity to do good where they live, and MagicLinks wants to inspire you to seek out needs you can fulfil both locally and internationally. Our team regularly gets together outside of work to volunteer at local charities in the Los Angeles area. Recently, we spent a day helping out at at L.A. Kitchen.
Food insecurity and job insecurity are ever-present issues for many, but, on the other hand, food waste is a huge problem. L.A. Kitchen aims to help out on all three fronts by “transform[ing] donated produce from local farmers and wholesale companies into wholesome healthy meals. The meals are distributed to our charitable partners that serve Los Angeles’ aging, low income, and homeless populations.”
In addition to kitchen staff and volunteers making food, L.A. Kitchen offers culinary training and other job skills to children in the welfare & foster systems, parolees, and individuals coming out of homelessness. The Empower L.A. program is 14 weeks long, and focuses on life and employment skills that will benefit program participants their whole life.
We had a wonderful time helping prep food that was made into meals for the homeless, senior citizens, etc. around L.A county. In addition, we put together farm bags with fresh produce that were distributed to the various organizations that they support. Thanks for having us, L.A. Kitchen – we’ll definitely be coming back! (our CEO and co-founder, Brian Nickerson, is WORKING the plastic apron and broom/dustpan combo, no?)
